From the memorial - cousin Hilly Rose 01/19/2008

FROM THE MEMORIAL SERVICE: It is ironic that Harvey spent his life trying to alleviate pain in his patients, yet inadvertently is causing so much pain for so many today. Harvey Leon Rose. In Greek, Leon means Lion. Greece is a small country, but with the mainland and its islands there are many places. Only one was named Leon, now called Leonadads, and it is on the southern shores of Crete. Harvey Leon Rose was destined to be part Greek. Harvey did not spring from nowhere. Our grandfather, Aaron Rose, was a tall handsome man with very warm and kindly eyes. My father and his mother were brother and sister. Anna, his mother, was typically a strong woman from middle Europe. His father, Fishel Zbarz was the fastest talking man I have ever met. When they married they took the name of Rose, you figure it out. I have known Harvey for all of his 75 years. Unfortunately, my family moved to Los Angeles when I was ten. We moved back to Chicago five years later, and his family moved to Los Angeles. So it really wasn't until Harvey moved to Sacramento and I moved to San Francisco some 45 years ago that we were finally in shouting distance of each other and became close. Harvey was a great source of information and a great comfort to me over the seven years my son Judd was dying of a brain tumor. I know that all families have their ups and downs, but Dianna and Kari, he was very proud of you. He told me many stories and they were all positive. It took him a bit to warm up to Nathaniel, but he came to be very proud of him, especially as Nathaniel saw Harvey’s baby picture and decided it was a photo of Nay-nay. With Nathanial you will always have Harvey with you. Some of you know I was the host on Coast to Coast AM for a number of years. In radio we all have our signature sign offs. Mine was "have a kind and gentle night." So to my cousin Harvey I say, "Have a kind and gentle eternity.” Hilly Rose
